Deepa Doshi, BRANDit #RiseLikeAPhoenix Special Feature ‘Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine.’ Deepa Doshi, Communication Manager, BRANDit studied Mass Communication not for passion but for just a degree. Being the most pampered child in the family, she had no inclination for building a career in life. However, things changed when she lost her dad right after her final year exams and took up a job in PR to divert her mind from the loss. “PR was the last thing on my mind but it changed me as a person,” claims Deepa. Born with neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder which causes tumours to form on nerve tissues; Deepa was never comfortable under her skin. She said, “As a PR representing lifestyle brands; I felt very conscious about my looks which further depleted my confidence. To make it worse, there were people who made me uncomfortable by avoiding eye contact with me or looking at me and making faces. Finally, it occurred to me, I’m either going to love me or hate me. And I chose to love myself. Then everything kind of sprung from there. Things that I thought weren’t attractive became extraordinary. Confidence can really make you beautiful and happy.” “There will be people who will always make you uncomfortable but who cares. Do not let those people dim your shine just because they are blinded. Tell them to put on some sunglasses, because we were born this bright, glowing with our positivity!” said Deepa. With 14 years of extensive experience in PR, today, Deepa is one of the most admired communications managers in the travel industry. Happiness is an attitude.
