Saudi strengthens ties with Indian Travel Trade, unveils mega initiatives for MICE, GIT and wedding segments

March 4, 2025 | Press Release

Saudi Arabia is accelerating its engagement with India’s travel trade industry through a series of strategic networking events and high-profile participation at SATTE 2025. With a strong focus on expanding its appeal in the MICE, destination weddings, and Group Inclusive Tours (GIT) segments, Saudi is positioning itself as a top destination for Indian travellers.

Expanding presence in India’s travel market Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) marked a strong start to the year with its presence at SATTE 2025, one of South Asia’s premier travel trade exhibitions. At the event, Saudi showcased its diverse tourism offerings, ranging from cultural heritage sites and luxury experiences to scenic landscapes and adventure tourism. The Saudi delegation comprised 14 stakeholders, including Destination Management Organisations (DMOs), Destination Marketing Companies (DMCs), and airline partners, all working to boost the country’s visibility among Indian travellers.

Beyond SATTE, STA also hosted exclusive networking events in Bengaluru and Mumbai, drawing participation from over 200 travel trade professionals, including members of travel associations and leading online travel agencies (OTAs). These events offered insights into Saudi’s evolving tourism initiatives and facilitated discussions on expanding collaboration opportunities with Indian travel agents and operators.

Activating Mega Initiatives

MICE, Destination Weddings & Group Travel Recognising the growing demand for large-scale events and premium travel experiences from India, Saudi has launched specialised initiatives targeting the MICE, wedding, and GIT segments. The country is now actively promoting itself as an ideal location for grand corporate retreats, destination weddings, and exclusive group tours.

A recent familiarisation trip for Indian travel professionals provided firsthand exposure to Saudi’s world-class venues, luxurious accommodations, and unique cultural experiences. With its stunning landscapes and exceptional hospitality, Saudi is emerging as an attractive alternative to traditional wedding and event destinations, offering both grandeur and exclusivity.

A Sporting Powerhouse

Set to Attract Indian Fans Saudi is also gaining traction as a global hub for sporting events. Since 2018, it has hosted over 100 major international tournaments, including high-profile boxing matches and Formula 1 races. Looking ahead, the country will welcome the World Rally Championship, FIBA Basketball Asia Cup, Esports World Cup, and FIFA World Cup 2034.

For Indian sports enthusiasts, this presents an exciting opportunity to witness world-class sporting action while exploring a new travel destination. Major cities such as Riyadh, Jeddah, Al Khobar, and Abha will host these events, further cementing Saudi’s reputation as a dynamic travel and sports hub.

Enhanced Connectivity & Visa Facilitation

Saudi’s rapid tourism expansion is supported by increased air connectivity between India and the Kingdom. As of February 2025, weekly inbound flights from India have risen to 314, reflecting a 13.4% year-on-year increase. This number is expected to grow by another 14.5% in the coming months, with more routes connecting major Indian cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.

Currently, seven airlines—Saudia, Flynas, IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air—operate flights between the two countries, ensuring seamless access for business and leisure travelers alike. In addition, Saudi has simplified visa procedures for Indian travelers holding valid Schengen, UK, or US visas, enabling them to apply for visas at 11 Tasheer Centers across India.

A Future of Growth & Opportunity

With a clear vision to become a global tourism leader, Saudi is investing heavily in infrastructure, hospitality, and unique experiences. As one of its key source markets, India is set to play a crucial role in Saudi’s tourism growth and Vision 2030. Whether for business, leisure, or sporting events, Saudi is emerging as an exciting new destination for Indian travellers, offering an unparalleled blend of tradition, modernity, and luxury.
