Air India and Icelandair Sign Codeshare Pact to Connect India with Iceland and Beyond

June 2, 2025 | Press Release

Partnership announced at IATA AGM in Delhi aims to open 15 new route options for travelers between India and Europe

In a strategic move that marks the first-ever codeshare link between India and Iceland, Air India and Icelandair have inked a partnership that will open up smoother travel connections between the two countries. The agreement, signed on the sidelines of the 81st IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM) in New Delhi, is set to enhance access to Iceland from key Indian cities and vice versa, through major European gateways.

The partnership will enable travelers to book combined itineraries with single-ticket convenience, synchronized schedules, and unified baggage policies across 15 routes spanning India and Europe.

Under this agreement, Air India passengers will be able to connect to Icelandair’s flights bound for Reykjavik (KEF) through European cities such as London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Milan, and Zurich. These connections will be facilitated via Air India’s own services into Europe.

In turn, Icelandair customers will gain access to Air India-operated flights from Europe to India. The Icelandic carrier will place its ‘FI’ code on Air India routes from Delhi to Amsterdam, Paris, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, and London Heathrow; and from Mumbai to Frankfurt and London Heathrow—creating new possibilities for European and North American travelers looking to explore India.

Campbell Wilson, CEO & Managing Director of Air India, noted, “We are happy to embark on this codeshare partnership with Icelandair, which unites two airlines committed to connecting the world. By combining our strengths, we are creating a seamless bridge between India’s vibrant destinations and Iceland’s extraordinary landscapes. This partnership underscores Air India’s ambition to expand our global reach while offering Icelandair’s customers seamless access to India’s diverse destinations.”

Bogi Nils Bogason, President and CEO of Icelandair, added, “This strategic partnership with Air India marks a significant milestone, opening up exciting new travel opportunities from across our network in North America and Europe to and from India. It will connect Iceland to Air India’s extensive network, allowing us to introduce what Iceland has to offer to their customers. We have and will continue to expand our network of partner airlines, focusing on working with airlines like Air India that offer great service and connectivity.”

Subject to regulatory clearances, the codeshare flights will gradually be made available for booking through both airlines’ platforms.

The move is expected to not only bolster tourism flows but also contribute to strengthening trade and cultural ties between India and Iceland, leveraging the connectivity benefits of both carriers across their home markets and networks.
