Genting Dream, first large cruise ship over 150,000 gross tonnage to berth alongside Phuket Deep Sea Port.

July 25, 2024 | Press Release

In a groundbreaking development, Resorts World Cruises announced that the Genting Dream, with a gross tonnage of 150,695, successfully completed its first berthing alongside the Phuket Deep Sea Port on July 24, 2024. This milestone makes Genting Dream the largest cruise ship to dock at this port, significantly enhancing the cruising experience for passengers.

Resorts World Cruises, known as ‘the Cruise Line that Knows Asia Best,’ brings its extensive expertise to the forefront with this achievement. Passengers on the 3 Night Phuket Cruise departing from Singapore will now enjoy the convenience of disembarking and re-embarking directly at Phuket without the need for tender boats. This development not only offers greater comfort but also allows passengers to maximize their stay in Phuket without worrying about tender schedules.

Michael Goh, President of Resorts World Cruises, expressed his gratitude and excitement: “Our Marine Operational team, the Captains of Genting Dream together with the Phuket Pilots have conducted comprehensive studies, risk assessments, and ship simulations over half a year with the Thailand authorities to ensure the feasibility and safety of this pioneering initiative. With our ship now able to berth alongside Phuket Deep Sea Port regularly, our passengers will enjoy the convenience, which will further boost Phuket’s image as a cruise destination.” He extended his thanks to the Marine Department, the Governor of Phuket province, local port authorities, and Wallem Shipping Agency for their support and coordination.

The establishment of a cruise terminal at the Phuket Deep Sea Port and the berthing of the Genting Dream opens up new opportunities for both Phuket and Resorts World Cruises. This milestone event not only enhances the cruise experience but also positions Phuket as a potential cruise and clearance gateway for outbound passengers. This move is expected to spur growth in the local and regional cruise tourism sector.

To commemorate this significant achievement, a special port stay event was held onboard the Genting Dream. Resorts World Cruises’ management, including Captain Havard Ramsoy, Senior Vice President of Fleet Operations, Mr. Jerry Leong, Senior Vice President of Business Development and Ports, and Captains Jukka Silvennoinen and Robert Bodin of the Genting Dream, welcomed Deputy Governor of Phuket, Adul Chuthong, and local authorities for a special memento presentation.

Phuket enthusiasts can now embark on the Genting Dream from Singapore on alternate Tuesdays for the 3 Night Cruise, experiencing the island’s renowned attractions, beautiful beaches, and vibrant nightlife, which features local food, beverages, night markets, and live entertainment. The Genting Dream also offers a variety of exciting itineraries from Singapore, including the 3 Night Penang-Kuala Lumpur Cruise, the 2 Night Kuala Lumpur Cruise, and the 2 Night High Seas Weekend Getaway Cruise. Alternatively, passengers can embark from Kuala Lumpur (via Port Klang) for the 4 Night Singapore Discovery Cruise and the 3 Night Singapore-Penang Cruise.

This historic docking of the Genting Dream at Phuket Deep Sea Port marks a significant step forward for Resorts World Cruises and the cruise tourism industry in the region.
