India in Focus: RAKTDA Appoints New Market Director to Capture Outbound Surge

April 18, 2025 | Press Release

In a strategic push to deepen its footprint in one of its top-performing source markets, Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) has appointed seasoned industry professional Vishal Bhatia as its India Market Director. Based in Mumbai, Bhatia will spearhead the emirate’s tourism strategy in India, with a focus on accelerating awareness, trade relations, and visitor arrivals.

India consistently ranks among the top five source markets for Ras Al Khaimah, and the appointment signals the emirate’s intention to double down on its India-first approach, particularly as outbound travel from the subcontinent continues to rebound and diversify post-pandemic.

Bhatia brings over 20 years of travel and tourism experience to the role, including a significant tenure as Country Manager for VisitBritain. Known for his ability to translate market insights into impactful trade and consumer strategies, he has built strong industry relationships and successfully driven sustainable growth in previous leadership positions.

Speaking about the new role, Bhatia said: “Joining RAKTDA presents a meaningful opportunity to build on the growing interest Ras Al Khaimah is receiving from India. My focus will be on strengthening trade and consumer engagement, increasing awareness across key cities, and unlocking opportunities across diverse segments.”

One such segment poised for exponential growth is the Indian destination wedding market—an area Bhatia is expected to actively cultivate. With its combination of natural beauty, cultural authenticity, and visa-on-arrival access for Indian travellers, Ras Al Khaimah is increasingly emerging as a compelling alternative to more saturated Middle East destinations.

Iyad Rasbey, Vice President of Destination Tourism Development at RAKTDA, emphasised the importance of Bhatia’s appointment: “Vishal’s appointment comes at a pivotal time as we continue to see strong growth from India. With his deep understanding of the market and relevant expertise, he will support our efforts to enhance Ras Al Khaimah’s appeal among Indian travellers as a year-round destination.”

The emirate, often dubbed the “Destination of the Future,” is banking on its mix of pristine beaches, des ert adventure, cultural heritage, and upscale hospitality to carve a niche in the hearts of Indian travellers—be they families, honeymooners, MICE groups, or wedding planners.

With enhanced air connectivity and a growing portfolio of luxury resorts, Ras Al Khaimah is positioning itself as a formidable player in the highly competitive Indian outbound tourism market. Bhatia’s appointment marks the next chapter in that journey—one that could well reshape Indian perceptions of the UAE’s northernmost emirate.
