Morocco Eyes Continued Growth in Indian Tourism Market Following Impressive 41% Surge

August 20, 2024 | Press Release

The Moroccan National Tourism Office (MNTO) is celebrating a remarkable achievement in its first year of operations in India, having recorded a 41% year-on-year growth in the Indian market until June 2024. This notable increase demonstrates Morocco’s growing popularity as a travel destination among Indian tourists, with expectations that the growth rate could reach 45% by the year’s end.

In the first half of 2024, Morocco welcomed 7.5 million tourists globally, representing a 15% increase. With a target of 15.5 million tourists by the end of the year, the MNTO has set its sights on ambitious growth in the Indian market, aiming to attract 100,000 Indian visitors by 2026.

Key to this progress has been MNTO’s active engagement with the Indian travel industry and media. Their recent roadshows in Delhi and Mumbai have proven pivotal in building relationships with prominent tour operators and media figures, boosting awareness of Morocco as a premier travel destination.

The MNTO also made its debut at OTM 2024, one of India’s top travel trade shows. Their participation underscored their growing presence in the Indian market, with a positive reception that highlighted Morocco’s appeal as a vibrant and culturally rich destination.

In a bid to enhance the perceptions of Indian travel professionals, MNTO organised a successful trade FAM trip to Morocco, offering key tour operators firsthand experiences of the country’s unique offerings. The trip garnered excellent feedback, further enhancing Morocco’s image as a must-visit destination for Indian travellers.

Looking forward, MNTO is targeting Morocco’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) capabilities as part of its strategic plans for the remainder of 2024. By focusing on this sector, the office hopes to solidify Morocco’s standing as a prime location for international business events.

Jamal Kilito, Country Manager of MNTO-India, expressed his optimism about the surge in Indian tourist arrivals, stating, “Morocco is a promising destination for Indian tourists. It’s encouraging to see Indian travellers, whether with family or solo, exploring the destination. With multiple trade engagements planned, Morocco has significant potential to attract honeymooners, MICE, and celebrations. In the coming months, we will accelerate our efforts in the Indian market, with plans to tap into the film industry for future collaborations.”

With these concerted efforts, Morocco is poised for continued growth in the Indian market, driven by a blend of cultural allure and strategic partnerships aimed at tapping into India’s diverse traveller base.
