SpiceJet Re-Inducts First Boeing 737 MAX into Service, Marking a Major Milestone in Fleet Restoration News January 28, 2025 | Press Release In a significant step towards enhancing its operational capacity, SpiceJet is set to re-induct its first Boeing 737 MAX aircraft into service starting January 29, 2025. This aircraft, which had been grounded for several months, marks a key milestone in the airline’s ongoing efforts to restore and modernize its fleet. The return of the MAX aircraft is part of SpiceJet’s broader fleet restoration plan, which also includes the addition of several other aircraft. To support this initiative, the airline has entered into maintenance agreements with leading providers, including StandardAero Inc., a US-based engine maintenance company, and CFM International, the manufacturer of the LEAP-1B engines used in the 737 MAX. By mid-April 2025, SpiceJet plans to return a total of ten aircraft, including four Boeing 737 MAX planes, to service, further boosting its fleet size and operational efficiency. The induction of the MAX aircraft will enable SpiceJet to expand its services to high-demand international markets such as Jeddah and Riyadh. Thanks to the 737 MAX’s fuel-efficient design, the airline will be able to operate these routes without any operational restrictions, offering cost savings in terms of reduced fuel consumption, lower maintenance requirements, and improved aircraft utilization. “We’re extremely proud to welcome the first of our grounded Boeing 737 MAX aircraft back into service,” said Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet. “This is a major step in our efforts to strengthen our fleet and ensure we offer our passengers the best possible service. As we continue to restore and expand our fleet, we remain focused on driving sustainable growth and enhancing the travel experience for all.” Since October 2024, SpiceJet has added ten aircraft to its fleet, comprising both previously grounded planes and new leases. This expansion has allowed the airline to introduce over 60 new flights in the last three months, significantly improving connectivity and offering passengers a wider range of travel options. With this fleet expansion, SpiceJet remains committed to being one of India’s top carriers, offering affordable, efficient, and safe air travel to its ever-growing base of passengers.
