Tourism Australia Celebrates Record-Breaking Surge in Indian Tourist Arrivals News Press Release | March 26, 2024 Tourism Australia is delighted to announce a significant milestone in its inbound tourism sector, with arrivals from India soaring to unprecedented levels. According to the latest data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), arrivals from India for the year-ended January 2024 reached an impressive 402,200, marking a remarkable 101% increase compared to 2019 figures. This achievement marks the first time Australia has surpassed the 400,000 arrivals mark from India, solidifying the country’s position as a premier destination for Indian travellers. Furthermore, India has ascended to become the 5th largest inbound market for Tourism Australia in 2024, climbing from its previous ranking of 7th in 2019. The month of January 2024 alone witnessed a staggering 26,200 visitors from India, representing a remarkable 106% of pre-pandemic levels in 2019. The surge in Indian tourist arrivals underscores Australia’s growing popularity among Indian travellers, fuelled by targeted marketing campaigns, a streamlined and efficient digital visa application process, and enhanced air travel connectivity between the two nations. This sustained growth trajectory since 2019 highlights the success of collaborative efforts between Tourism Australia, airlines, key distribution partners, and over 5,000 Aussie Specialist Agents in India, aimed at promoting Australia as a must-visit destination. Nishant Kashikar, Country Manager – India & Gulf, Tourism Australia, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “This resurgence of Indian tourists to Australia reflects the resilience and revival of international travel, particularly from one of our most valued markets. It underscores the strong desire for travel and exploration among Indian travellers, who are drawn to Australia’s unique landscapes, wildlife, and the multicultural vibrancy of our cities.” The significance of India as a key market for Australia’s tourism strategy moving forward cannot be overstated. Tourism Australia remains committed to fostering this growing relationship and welcomes inquiries for further information or opportunities to engage with Nishant Kashikar. Share this:FacebookX
