Vietjet Signals Global Aviation Ambitions with Major Airbus and Rolls-Royce Orders

June 20, 2025 | Press Release

Vietnam’s new-age airline Vietjet has taken a significant leap in its global expansion strategy with a bold order of 100 Airbus A321neo aircraft, announced at the 2025 Paris Airshow. The agreement includes the potential for an additional 50 aircraft, further solidifying Vietjet’s position as one of the fastest-growing aviation groups in Asia.

Complementing the aircraft order, Vietjet also inked a deal for 40 Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, reinforcing its commitment to building a next-gen widebody fleet as part of its recent A330neo expansion. These moves align with Vietjet’s long-term vision of transforming Vietnam into a regional aviation powerhouse.

“I have a vision and the determination to make Vietnam a regional aviation hub for passenger transportation, technical services, logistics, training, research, global supply chains, and aviation infrastructure. We will continue to develop a robust and modern fleet to support that goal. Today’s agreement with Airbus is more than a commercial contract—it is a significant milestone that marks the beginning of Vietjet’s new journey: a journey of global expansion, new growth drivers, enhanced connectivity, and the development of a sustainable aviation ecosystem powered by ambition and transformation,” said Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Chairwoman of Vietjet.

This Airbus deal follows Vietjet’s earlier commitment for 20 additional A330neo widebody aircraft, bringing its total widebody aircraft on order to 40. These strategic partnerships are not just about fleet growth—they also underscore strengthening economic ties between Vietnam, France, and Europe.

“Our latest agreement comes just weeks after the airline placed an additional order for A330neo widebody aircraft. Together, the A321neo and A330neo will be perfect partners for Vietjet to continue to spread its wings, efficiently matching capacity more closely to demand across its network. The airline will also benefit from the high levels of technical commonality that are unique to latest generation Airbus aircraft,” added Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, EVP Sales, Airbus Commercial Aircraft.

The A321neo, Airbus’ largest single-aisle aircraft, delivers over 20% fuel savings and CO₂ reduction, along with 50% noise reduction and a superior cabin experience. These features make it a crucial part of Vietjet’s push toward operational efficiency and sustainability.

On the engine side, Vietjet’s latest Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 order doubles its total engine commitment to 80 units, following an initial deal at the 2024 Singapore Airshow. Exclusively powering the A330neo, the Trent 7000 engines offer proven efficiency and are supported by Rolls-Royce’s TotalCare® service for long-term performance optimisation and advanced engine health monitoring.

Currently operating a fleet of over 120 fuel-efficient aircraft, Vietjet has more than 400 aircraft on order and continues to grow its international footprint. For Indian travellers, the airline now operates 78 weekly flights connecting New Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Kochi with Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang—with seamless onward connections to Bali, Jakarta, Beijing, Shanghai, Japan, South Korea, and Australia.

With these strategic aircraft and engine acquisitions, Vietjet is clearly positioning itself for a high-altitude future—where Vietnam isn’t just a stopover, but a central hub in global aviation.
