Nattachit Oonsiam to Lead Thailand’s Tourism Push in Western & Southern India as New TAT Mumbai Director

August 12, 2025 | Press Release

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has appointed Nattachit Oonsiam as the new Director of its Mumbai Office, signaling a renewed push to deepen Thailand’s engagement with Western and Southern India — a region that continues to be one of the country’s most important source markets for inbound travel.

Oonsiam, a seasoned tourism strategist with nearly 20 years at TAT, takes charge at a pivotal time. Indian outbound travel to Thailand has rebounded strongly, with growing demand for luxury holidays, destination weddings, culinary trails, and family getaways. Western and Southern states such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Madhya Pradesh remain high-yield markets, contributing significantly to both arrivals and tourism revenue.

Global Experience, Local Focus
Before arriving in India, Oonsiam headed TAT’s ASEAN, South Asia & South Pacific Marketing Division, managing promotional strategies across more than ten markets, including Australia, India, and ASEAN nations. He began his career in 2007 as Secretary to the Governor of TAT, moving through various international marketing roles that honed his understanding of diverse traveller profiles and the nuances of cross-cultural promotion.

Speaking to the travel trade community in Mumbai, Oonsiam said, “Thailand and India share more than just proximity — there is cultural closeness, emotional resonance, and a shared love for immersive travel experiences. My priority will be to strengthen these bonds through deeper collaboration with travel agents, airlines, media, and influencers, while presenting Thailand in fresh and inspiring ways for both first-time and repeat travellers.”

Strengthening B2B & B2C Engagement
From his Mumbai base, Oonsiam will oversee campaigns and partnerships aimed at diversifying Thailand’s image beyond its established beach and nightlife appeal. Key priorities include promoting niche segments such as wellness retreats, luxury resorts, culinary travel, destination weddings, and family-friendly itineraries.

His approach is expected to lean heavily on digital engagement and influencer-led storytelling, supported by strong trade partnerships. The goal, he says, is to “build not just visitor numbers, but visitor value.”

A Market on the Rise
India continues to be among Thailand’s top source markets, thanks to strong air connectivity, short-haul travel convenience, and the ease of obtaining visas. The new leadership at TAT Mumbai aligns with Thailand’s broader strategy to attract high-quality travellers through curated experiences and seamless travel planning.

With Oonsiam at the helm, industry insiders anticipate a more personalised and segmented marketing approach, especially in Western India’s high-spending metro cities and Southern India’s fast-growing outbound hubs. His tenure could see an increased presence of Thailand in trade fairs, roadshows, and collaborative campaigns targeting the Indian travel trade ecosystem.

As Thailand’s tourism ambitions evolve, Oonsiam’s combination of global perspective and market-specific focus is set to play a defining role in shaping the country’s next chapter with India.
