BTEA Aims to Elevate Bahrain as Top Global Tourist Spot

Press Release | October 12, 2023

The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) is about to unveil a groundbreaking series of initiatives designed to reinforce Bahrain’s standing as a leading global tourist destination. This announcement comes following Bahrain’s notable achievement in securing Manama as the capital of Gulf tourism for the year 2024 during the 7th gathering of tourism ministers from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

The esteemed recognition of “Manama” as the capital of Gulf tourism for 2024 underscores Bahrain’s exceptional contributions to the advancement of the Gulf tourism sector. Bahrain’s foresight in recognising the potential of tourism as a vital sector capable of propelling economic growth and ensuring sustainable development played a critical role in earning this honour. Bahrain is fully dedicated to cultivating a thriving and dynamically expanding tourism sector, with the objective of not only elevating its reputation as a prominent hub for both regional and international tourists, but also fostering stronger tourism collaboration within the GCC region.

Dr. Nasser Ali Qaedi, CEO, Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), expressed, “We take great pride in this accomplishment within the Kingdom’s tourism sector, serving as evidence of a series of successful tourism initiatives at local, regional, and international scales. The Kingdom has prioritized the tourism sector, placing it at the forefront of its developmental agenda. This strategic emphasis acknowledges the pivotal role of the sector in promoting sustainable development. Pursuant to this vision, significant investments have been directed toward expanding tourism infrastructure, enhancing tourism services, and establishing high-quality facilities. These efforts aim to attract a larger influx of tourists from around the world.”

Dr. Qaedi emphasised, “Through close collaboration with both the public and private sectors, BTEA consistently crafts success stories, striving to achieve the ambitious tourism objectives outlined in the 2022-2026 strategy. This dedicated effort has rapidly transformed Bahrain into a beacon of adaptability, diversity, and sustained tourism growth within an impressively short span. The evidence of this success was clear last year when the Kingdom welcomed approximately 10 million tourists, surpassing the targeted numbers by an impressive 20%. We assure our GCC visitors of an exceptional tourism year ahead. Expect the unveiling of numerous high-quality tourism initiatives and a range of exclusive travel packages tailored for GCC citizens and residents. These offerings are thoughtfully designed to attract a wider audience, enhancing tourism appeal across all sectors.”

The Kingdom of Bahrain has consistently been a gem of the Arabian Gulf, offering a unique blend of a rich history, vibrant culture, and breathtaking natural beauty. With this recent prestigious recognition, Bahrain aims to capture the attention of tourists from around the world, inviting them to embark on a journey filled with distinctive experiences, warm hospitality, and unforgettable memories.
