L’Oiseau Blanc at The Peninsula Paris, France Gaze at the Eiffel Tower and Paris’s famous rooftops from this vintage aviation-themed indoor restaurant and outdoor lounge at the top of The Peninsula Paris. The interiors (which include an actual plane) and the cocktails (like the Aviation and the Take Off) pay homage to French pilots Charles Nungesser and François Coli, who attempted the first transatlantic flight between Paris and New York on the plane L’Oiseau Blanc. Make a full meal out of the experience with the three-course, pre-fix menu (115 Euros), which showcases the prowess of award-winning Executive Chef Christophe Raoux. Terrass’’ Hotel Offering the most magical views of the Parisian skyline from the heights of Montmartre, this bar-cum-restaurant sitting atop the elegant Terrass’’ Hotel in Paris’s 18th arrondissement is sure to impress. During the summer, take a pew outside on the terrace. Come winter, the floor-to-ceiling windows still allow you to admire the vista from inside. The menu comprises a modern take on traditional French dishes. You can’t go wrong with chef Eric Lurthy’s salmon gravlax and rack of lamb with fruit tagine. Créatures Paris A top spot to rival Perruche’s views is Créatures located just next door also on the Boulevard Haussmann shopping strip but on the Galeries Lafayette department store rooftop. To go with those killer views, grungy-hippie chef Julien Sebbag serves up some of the best vegetarian fares you’ll wrap your taste buds around in Paris. The young chef also makes sure his produce is sourced as locally as possible and implements a strict zero-waste policy. Regardless of what you order from the small seasonal sharing menu you won’t be disappointed, but if I have one recommendation, it has to be the baked focaccia bread layered with grilled veggies and a slathering of creamy mozzarella; Fresh and moreish, it’s the food of dreams. Hotel Raphaël With views of the Eiffel Tower to one side and the Arc de Triomphe to the other, the five-star Hôtel Raphaël’s rooftop is perhaps the most luxurious in all of Paris. Part restaurant, part posh champagne bar and restaurant, the three-course menu may set you back a fair few euros, but you won’t find much finer fare anywhere else in the city. Chef Francisco Merino whips up French fine dining – including roasted wild prawn and scallops carpaccio with artichoke cream – like no other. La Maison Blanche Taking a stroll along the Champs Élysées? Be sure to stop off at La Maison Blanche. No matter how many times you’ve been to Paris, once you step onto the open-air terrace, you’ll be blown away by the blemish-free views of the Eiffel Tower, Les Invalides and the Seine. On the menu? Perfectly cooked veal shank, salmon marinated with Granny Smith apples and mango with white chocolate mousse and cream cheese sorbet, all masterfully prepared by Michelin-star French chef Fabrice Giraud. Printemps Perruche A smart outfit of leafy passageways, yellow cabana striped banquettes and uplifting samba music floating between tables, Perruche “garden-restaurant,” as it’s called in the literature, is laid out on top of the Printemps department store on busy Boulevard Haussmann in the centre of town. Order the creamy and not-too-salty ‘Vitello Tonnato’ starter followed by the octopus grilled to perfection which comes with potato aïoli. And don’t miss out on the unctuous riz au lait (rice pudding) with crunchy Piedmont hazelnuts to finish. Café de l’Homme On the opposite side of the Eiffel Tower tucked in the right-wing of the Palais Chaillot of the Trocadero, the Café de l’Homme is chic and upscale, and chimes to a slower less see-and-be-seen pace than its rival, Girafe, just on the other side of the Trocadero. A good choice for afternoon tea in springtime or lunch with a view that you won’t forget in a hurry, this contemporary brasserie is a failsafe choice when in the area where you can enjoy the black truffle and creamy parmesan macaroni or fleshy scallops and panais mousseline which are to die for. Georges Terraces don’t come much bigger than the one perched on top of the Centre Pompidou. Gaze across the Unesco-listed Parisian rooftops from this restaurant on the roof of the contemporary arts centre, built in the 1970s. The eclectic menu of French, American and Asian dishes tastes just as good whether you dine outdoors or indoors. If you’re stopping by for dinner, don’t leave too early – live DJs kick off right after dessert.
