Tourism Australia Manifests to continue being the Premier Destination for Indian Travellers in 2024

In a remarkable resurgence, Australia has solidified its position as the favoured long-haul destination for Indian travellers in 2023, surpassing pre-COVID levels and securing a remarkable #5 ranking for both arrivals and expenditure. Notably, India spearheaded the international recovery for Australia, swiftly reclaiming pre-pandemic visitation levels and maintaining its status as one of the fastest-growing inbound markets. This success can be attributed to a tripling of direct aviation capacity, a streamlined online visa process, and a robust year-long marketing strategy employing media, influencers, and key distribution partners, says Nishant Kashikar, Country Manager – India & Gulf, Tourism Australia.

Speaking about 2024, Kashikar said, “As we stride into 2024, the India opportunity is immense – a projected 50 million outbound travellers by FY 2030 and one that is ascending the global list of spends on travel. The Indian tourism sector manifests a dynamic landscape shaped by a generational shift towards exploration at a young age and the propensity to spend. Shorter planning windows but longer stays, a desire for immersive local experiences, and individuals increasingly exploring travel opportunities tied to specific events also define a compelling narrative for the future of outbound travel from India.”

He further added, “According to Tourism Australia’s Consumer Demand Project Survey findings, while selecting holiday destinations, Indian High Yield Travellers (HYTs) look for places that offer safety, world-class nature and beauty, unique wildlife, and aquatic & coastal experiences. Australia is well-positioned to meet this demand by virtue of the diversity and breadth of tourism experiences on offer, that resonate with the Indian travellers.”

As we embark on 2024, the stage is set for Australia to further enthral the Indian travel market, solidifying its status as a must-visit destination for the discerning Indian traveller.
