Tourism Australia setting stage for ICC Cricket World Cup 2020

With an aim to showcase Australia in the best possible way during Cricket World Cup 2020 scheduled in March 2020, Tourism Australia (TA) is putting its best foot forward. Australia received 3,67,000 Indian travellers during the year ended May 2019, registering a growth of 11 per cent over 2018. Indian visitors spent A$ 1.7 billion for the year ended March 2019, registering an increase of 12 per cent over 2018.

Bob East, Chairman, Tourism Australia said, “As a host nation of the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2020, the coming year will be an exciting time for us, and we look forward to welcoming more Indian travellers to experience the Australian way of life. Apart from promoting the usual tourism destinations like Sydney and Melbourne, we urge Indian travellers to explore regions like Western Australia, Queensland and Northern Territory for some great adventures and experiences.” Adding further, he said, “India is currently Australia’ fastest growing inbound market. Our Indian trade partners have been tremendously supportive of Australia and they are some of our best advocates, who have played a big role in maketing Australia a preferred holiday destination among Indian High Value Travellers.”

Nishant Kashikar, Country Manager – India & Gulf, Tourism Australia informed that 52 per cent of the total arrivals of India consists of VFR (Visiting Friends & Relatives) traffic. He said, “May & December are the peak season for Indians to visit Australia. Hence the months for ICC Cricket World Cup (February and March) are relatively softer months. Our partners in Australia are offering some of the best deals for our Indian partners to ensure that Indians can experience Australia in the best possible way.”

The tourism board recently concluded the 17th edition of its premier trade event – Australia Marketplace India (AMI), formerly known as India Travel Mission in Kochi. It is considered as the best platform by Tourism Australia to provide India’s top selling agents of Australian holidays with latest updates on tourism products and destination updates while also strengthening business relationships. The four-day event saw 77 Australian tourism businesses showcasing their products to a record 95 Indian travel companies.
