Turkish Airlines carried 6.1 million passengers in December 2023

Turkish Airlines has released its December traffic results, showcasing a substantial increase in passenger and cargo operations. The airline reported a remarkable 19.4% surge in passenger capacity, measured in available seat kilometers, compared to the same period in 2022.

In December 2023, the airline transported a total of 6.1 million passengers, marking a 10.1% growth from December 2022. The international load factor stood at an impressive 80%, while the domestic load factor reached 78.5%. Notably, the number of international-to-international passengers rose by 19%, reaching 2.6 million from 2.2 million in 2022.

The available seat kilometers (ASK) experienced a significant uptick of 19.4%, reaching 19.8 billion in December 2023, compared to 16.6 billion in the same period of the previous year. Additionally, the cargo and mail volume for December 2023 exhibited a notable 15.8% increase, totalling 159.7 thousand tons, as opposed to 137.9 thousand tons in December 2022.

Expanding the perspective to the entire year, the airline witnessed a substantial 16.1% rise in the total number of passengers, reaching 83.4 million in 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. International-to-international passengers saw a remarkable 27.1% increase, totalling 29.8 million.

The total load factor for the year increased by 1.9 points to 82.6%, with the international load factor at 82.4% and the domestic load factor at 84.3%. Available seat kilo-meters for the entire year experienced a growth of 16.4%, reaching 234.8 billion compared to 201.8 billion in 2022.

However, there was a slight dip in cargo/mail volume for the entire year, with a 1.2% decrease to 1.66 million tons from 1.68 million tons in 2022. As of December 2023, the airline’s fleet comprised a total of 440 aircraft.
