Vietnam: One of the fastest growing outbound destinations for Indian travellers in 2022

OneAbove Holidays in association with VietJet Air organised a high-profile tour for select travel experts and media from Mumbai to Vietnam. With an agenda to make Vietnam one of the most popular outbound destinations for Indian travellers in the coming years, the 9-member delegation led by Rahim Aslam, Co-Founder, OneAbove Holidays also met top officers from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and Quang Ninh Tourism to discuss possibilities and opportunities to increase tourism from India to Vietnam.

Speaking about the potential of the Indian tourism market, Ha Van Sieu- Vice Chairman, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) said, “India and Vietnam share an excellent relationship and have strong cultural ties. We intend to strengthen the business ties through mutual tourism and trade relationships with India. With direct flights from multiple Indian cities to a few of the leading tourist destinations in Vietnam, we look forward to welcoming Indian tourists in the next few months and years. We received close to 1,30,000 Indians in 2019 and with your support, our focus is to receive 1 million Indian tourists in the next few years.”

Aslam said, “Vietnam has the potential to become one of the leading outbound destinations for Indians if marked in the right way to the right audience. This destination has the potential to achieve one million Indian tourist arrival figures in the next two years. Hence we selected this Indian delegation which consists of a perfect mix of travel experts catering to every segment of Indian travellers. I’m sure with our partners and support from VNAT and regional tourism boards and travel partners, we will be able to bring Vietnam on the Indian travellers’ preferred destination list in the next few months.”

The Indian delegation also met with Pham Ngoc Thuy, Director – Quang Ninh Tourism Department, Quang Ninh Province; Doan Manh Linh, Manager of Travel Division, Quang Ninh Province; Bui Tan Dieu, General Manager, Central Luxury Halong Hotel; Nguyen Thai Hung, General Manager, Saigon Halong Hotel; Nguyen Van Son, General Manager, D’Lioro Hotel & Resort, Halong; Tran Thi Hong Lieu (Emily), Deputy General Manager, Royal Halong Hotel.

After connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with New Delhi and Mumbai, VietJet Air recently announced 11 additional new routes connecting four major Vietnamese cities with Indian western and southern central hubs of Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Bangalore (Bengaluru). The new routes make Vietjet the largest carrier operating between the two countries in terms of capacity, with a total of 17 services. The nine new routes linking Hanoi/ Ho Chi Minh City/ Da Nang with Ahmedabad/ Hyderabad/ Bangalore will operate from September onwards with four weekly flights each. Just in time for the year-end holidays, the two other new routes including Da Nang – Mumbai/New Delhi will get operational.
