Norwegian Prima will be name of new NCL ship to debut in 2022

NCL announced its new ship will be named Norwegian Prima, and will begin offering cruises in Summer 2022.

Prima will be one of six Prima class cruise ships, and will be smaller than the Breakaway class ships. Prima will be about 140,000 tons.

Norwegian Prima will accommodate 3,215 passengers and initially sail out of New York.

Her inaugural sailings will begin in August 2022, when she begins sailing from Amsterdam and Copenhagen.  The 10-night cruises will visit Northern Europe, the Norwegian Fjords and the Baltics.

She will then transition to North America when she offers a 12-night transatlantic crossing from Southampton, England, to New York on September 23, 2022. That cruise will visit Lerwick, Scotland; Reykjavík, Iceland; and Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Once in North America, Prima will offer a 5-night cruise to Bermuda from New York on October 10, 2022.

She will then move from New York to Galveston on a 12-night cruise on October 15, 2022 that also visits Curaçao, Bonaire and Aruba along the way.

On October 31, 2022, Prima will move to Miami during an 11-night cruise with stops at Curaçao, Bonaire and Great Stirrup Cay.

The new sailings go on sale May 12.

From Dec. 11, 2022, to March 19, 2023, Norwegian Prima will sail Western Caribbean voyages from Port Canaveral that range from five to seven nights. The trips will bring calls at such destinations as Cozumel, Mexico; Ocho Rios, Jamaica; Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands; and Great Stirrup Cay.

Norwegian on Monday also announced that Norwegian Prima would return to New York City in the spring of 2023 for sailings to Bermuda. The ship then will head back to Northern Europe for a series of cruises out of Reykjavík, Iceland, and Southampton, England.
